Björn Ulvaeus |
Aug 1976 :
ABBA Dancing Queen
The first Abba record was Waterloo...but they'd already had Swedish success...as Björn & Benny Agnetha & Anni-Frid ... before hitting on the obvious. The rest is history ... Dancing Queen, by the way, was originally called ... Boogaloo.

|
| April 1974:
Waterloo
Björn wasn't allowed onstage when ABBA won Eurovision because a security guard didn't believe anybody that silly-looking could possibly be a songwriter!
|
Dec 1976 :
Mamma Mia
Should you be interested in such things ... Frida is a mezzo soprano ... Agnetha is a high soprano ... and Björn & Benny are a bit gruff.

April 1976 : Fernando
Fernando was originally released on one of Frida's solo albums, FRIDA ENSAM. Some people think it's about the Spanish Civil War ... thus pre-dating the Manic Street Preachers ... by about 25 years!
|
June 1977 :
Brotherhood of Mann with Angelo
Brotherhood of Man actually started in 1969...but by the time they got this far.....none ot the Original members were left. Their first hit was UNITED WE STAND.

1975 : S.O.S
Amazingly Björn & Benny only wrote ... 12 songs a year when Abba were together! That's about a verse a week. Each one took between a week ... and a fortnight to record.

1980 : The Winner Takes It All
Björn says these were the quickest lyrics he ever wrote. He also says he was drunk at the time! The song's given added poignancy by the fact that .. Björn & Agnetha had only recently divorced .. when it was recorded.

1978 . Thank You For The Music
Despite being one of Abba's most popular songs ... this wasn't a single until 1983. It was part of the GIRL WITH THE GOLDEN HAIR mini-musical ... that Abba used to do on tour. To date, it's their last hit ... although Dancing Queen was reissued in 1992.
